AT LEISURE
Crete
offers a truly wide range of activities for recreation and entertainment,
for visitors of all tastes and means. This especially goes for the nightlife
since there is an abundance of discos, restaurants, taverns, bars etc.
What is surely worth mentioning is a kind of local tavern specializing
in the traditional Cretan music (played by the "lyra" instrument) and
the native folk dancing. Almost every major hotel organizes folk nights
and dances.
SPORTS
A
long list of sports might be pursued in Crete. This is partly due to
the marvelous recreational and sport facilities available. So get prepared
for swimming, tennis, mountain climbing (also organized expeditions
by clubs), water - skiing, wind - surfing, snorkeling, scuba-diving,
sailing (facilities available), fishing (requiring a license all year
- round) hunting (only seasonal), car-motorcycle - and bicycle - racing
(also organized competitions by local clubs), flying (two air clubs
exist).

Expect
to come across an overwhelming variety of Cretan goods provoking you
to an endless browsing in the shops. Antiques, handicrafts, local wines,
souvenirs, are just some of the memorable merchandise.
At sunset time Aghios Nikolaos (9
km) starts sizzling as a great variety of entertainment activities grows
fast until very early in the morning.
